10 Years: Canal Towns Partnership

Partnership-canal logoThe C&O Canal Trust facilitates the Canal Towns Partnership (CTP), a group of nine gateway communities located along the C&O Canal National Historical Park. This is one of the four Partner Programs we manage. Learn more below, or learn about one of our other Partner Programs:

9 Canal Towns work together to economically benefit from the C&O Canal

The Canal Towns Psrtnership works with the Park to support Park visitors and strengthen relationships between the Park and adjacent towns. Towns currently in the Partnership are Point of Rocks, Brunswick, Sharpsburg, Williamsport, Hancock, and Cumberland in Maryland; and Harpers Ferry, Bolivar, and Shepherdstown in West Virginia. The C&O Canal Trust acts as fiscal agent for the Canal Towns Partnership.

The towns played a vital role in the C&O Canal’s history and continue to unite citizens and Park visitors with annual events including fishing rodeos, Canal-family reunions, living history programs, and other special events.
