Canal Community Days

Canal Community Days is the C&O Canal Trust’s annual public volunteer program. Each year, we recruit and manage hundreds of volunteers to undertake a range of preservation, beautification, maintenance, and conservation projects along the 184.5-mile length of the C&O Canal National Historical Park, working closely with the National Park Service to identify priorities that volunteers of all ages can complete. Most of our events are held in the spring.

Visitation to the Park has surged throughout the past several years, and our dedicated volunteers provide vital support at high visitor-use areas.

Canal Gold by MJ Clingan

You – or your business – can make a direct impact on the experience of the over five million visitors of all ages expected to visit the C&O Canal NHP in 2024 for rest, recreation, and the enjoyment of nature and history. We rely on the support of our Sponsors to help fund public volunteer projects each year and underwrite the costs of the program: project materials and supplies, and organizational costs associated with running the program. To show our gratitude for your commitment to the community, and the well-being of the C&O Canal NHP, the C&O Canal Trust offers a number of benefits, including signage in the Park and recognition on our website, social media, and in media releases.
