Intro to Hiking the Appalachian Trail

Thursday, December 5th 2019 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is offering an Intro to Hiking the Appalachian Trail workshop. This class is designed for people who are considering a section or thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. It will cover how to access and navigate the trail, what to pack, places on the trail with permit or other special requirements, and how to properly store food and dispose of waste while hiking.

Instructor Deb Coleman thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2017 as a flip flopper and completed a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2019. She is a member of Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group, a volunteer wilderness search and rescue group. Deb is also a trail maintainer for Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, a Leave No Trace Master Educator, and a Wilderness First Responder.

The class is open to the general public and is free. Advance registration is required; register here. Class size is limited to 20.

If you have questions, contact instructor Deb Coleman at [email protected].
