Federal Square Marker

As the town of Williamsport was considered by President Washington to serve as the Federal Capital and the town was surveyed, four stones were placed to mark the proposed Federal Square. One stone is easily seen just 50 yards up Potomac Street on the left side of the street as you head into town from the Cushwa Basin. Note the cut into the stone wall in front of the first house on the left and you'll find the marker in the ground at the middle of the cut.
