Two miles upstream from McCoys Ferry is Big Pool. This wide, lake-like area was once an ancient river channel. Therefore it required minimal effort and maintenance on behalf of the canal company to utilize as this two mile long natural feature as a turning basin during canal operations. Canawlers then and visitors today encounter abundant wildlife both in the waters and at the edge of Big Pool.
