C&O Canal Trust Launches Job Skills Development Program

The C&O Canal Trust recently launched a new Job Skills Development Program that will provide hands-on experiences in a National Park setting to disadvantaged youth ages 14-17 during the spring and summer of 2019. The program will expose its participants to training in preservation, conservation, and maintenance projects, and will also provide enrichment programs will resume building, recreational opportunities, and job shadowing.

This program was made possible by funding from a Montgomery County Council Community Grant.

This program will be managed in partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Recreation, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and the Maryland State Parks’ Conservation Jobs Corps (CJC).

The County Council grant will also fund the development of a “Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Plan”, which will enable the Trust to enhance diversity in all of its programming and operations, and a “Ladder of Engagement,” a tool that will identify all opportunities available at the C&O Canal National Historical Park, from internships, training, workshops, and seasonal and term positions.
