Walk Maryland Hike at Lockhouse 28

Join Trust staff on October 2 for Walk Maryland Day! An annual celebration of the State of Maryland’s call to action to motivate people to get active, Walk Maryland Day is held annually at the beginning of October. This year, Trust staff will welcome participating walkers to Point of Rocks for a mile walk to Lockhouse 28, one of our seven Canal Quarters lockhouses. Hikers will then have the opportunity to tour the lockhouse and learn about how they may book their next getaway to the C&O Canal NHP!

Date: Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 10 am – 11:30 am
Location: Point of Rocks Boat Ramp Parking Lot
3703 Canal Rd, Point Of Rocks, MD 21777

Parking: There are plenty of parking spaces at the Point Of Rocks parking lot.
Restrooms: Port-a-pots are located near the parking lot.
Accessibility: This program involves standing and the ability to walk 2 miles on flat ground and touring a historic building.

Program:
Happy Walktober! At the beginning of the hike, we will gather together at the Point of Rocks parking lot where Trust staff will give a brief presentation. We will discuss a few points on C&O Canal history and how it contributes to Maryland State history. Then we will walk on the towpath to the Lockhouse 28, where visitors will be able to tour the house. We will finish the program by hiking back to the parking lot!

In the event of a schedule change or cancellation due to extreme heat or conditions, we will contact you via email. 

Registration
Pre-registration is required, though the event is free. Once you’ve registered, you will receive a Trust Media Release. You may fill this out and bring it with you to the event or fill out a blank form onsite. Walkers must register as a Sole Mate on the Walk Maryland Day site here.
