Antietam Battlefield

Just four miles up the road from Ferry Hill is the town of Sharpsburg, Maryland. The battle of Antietam, the bloodiest single day of fighting during the Civil War, occurred on the fields around the town on September 17, 1862. Four miles west on Rt. 34, turn left on Rt. 65 and continue one mile to the Antietam National Battlefield Visitor Center.
