Three New Members Join Board of Directors at the C&O Canal Trust

The C&O Canal Trust is pleased to welcome Randy Cone, John Guttman, and Don Harrison to the Board of Directors. They join eight members bringing the total number of members on the Board to eleven as of June 2015.

Randy Cone was introduced as a member of the Board at the recent June 12 Board Meeting. He currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Investments at the UBS Institutional Consulting Group located in Washington, D.C. Prior to coming aboard at UBS in January 2006, he worked at Merrill Lynch in Washington, D.C. from 1986 to 2005. During his 20 years at Merrill Lynch, he helped to revitalize and broaden the services the company offers. In 2013, he was nominated as a member to the Board of Trustees of The Institute for Christian and Jewish Studies (ICJS). Throughout his career, he has remained an active participant in many philanthropic events and activities. He was awarded the title of Certified Investment Management Analyst in August 1990 after completing course requirements for The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Investment Management Consultants Association. In 2014, he completed a Financial Markets course offered through a Yale online program taught by Professor Robert Schiller, who was a 2013 Nobel Prize winner for Economics. This year he received the Accredited Investment Fiduciary title after completing all of the requirements for the fi360’s Capstone AIF® Program.

John Guttman was introduced as a member of the Board at the recent June 12 Board Meeting. Formerly a Managing Shareholder, he currently serves as a Shareholder in Beveridge & Diamond, PC, which is a law firm with a primary focus on environmental issues. In addition, he serves as General Counsel and a member of the Board of the National Association for Environmental Management (NAEM), which is the leading professional association for environmental management experts from corporations, government, and academia. He has served as principal counsel in many cases pertaining to NEPA, RCRA, CERCLA and the Clean Air Act. Prior to joining Beveridge & Diamond, PC, he served as a law clerk for Judge Aubrey E. Robinson, Jr. of the United States District of Columbia. He holds a Juris Doctor degree in Law from Cornell University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He was selected to be incorporated in the 2015 editions of Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers.

Don Harrison was introduced as a member of the Board at the recent June 12 Board Meeting. He is currently a member of Friends of Historic Great Falls Tavern and the C&O Canal Association. In June 2002, he retired from his positions as Software Project Manager and SW Quality Assurance Manager of DynCorp, Inc. Since 2002, he has served as the President of the Friends of Historic Great Falls Tavern. He is a former member of the C&O Canal Trust Board of Directors serving from May 2007 to September 2013. From 2007 to 2009, he served as Vice Chairman of the Board, and from 2010 to 2012, he was Chairman of the Nominating Committee at the Trust. Today, he continues to serve as a member on the Advisory Board of the C&O Canal Trust. He is a past President of the Rotary Club of Potomac, MD and a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church. In 2006, the C&O Canal National Historic Park and the National Park Service National Capital Region awarded him the Volunteer of the Year award. During that year, he was an individual winner of the George B. Hartzog Jr. Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service awarded by the National Park Service. Today, he remains an avid walker on the towpath and continues to support the park through his volunteer work.
