Trees in Winter Hike

At this time of year, the trees are bare. What are some ways we can identify trees without their leaves? Join our Trees in Winter guided hike to get to know our most common trees a little better, especially in winter! 

When:
February 28, 2026 from 10 am – 12 pm

Where:
Carderock Recreation Area
Clara Barton Parkway, across from the US Naval Surface Warfare Center

We will meet at the Carderock Pavilion.

Who:
This is an adult-focused hike, but interested children ages 10+ are welcome to accompany their parents. No drop-offs and no dogs, please.

Provided Onsite:

  • Participant waivers. Legal guardians will need to sign for their children.
  • Knowledgeable staff to guide you through the woods in winter
  • Additional information about the trees
  • Maps and other park resources

Registration:

Please register each person in your group planning to attend. Legal guardians will need to sign forms for their children. Please contact us if you need these forms in advance.
