Canal Community Days Event in Georgetown

The C&O Canal National Historical Park follows the Potomac River for 184.5 miles between Georgetown and Cumberland and is one of the most visited national park sites in the country. The C&O Canal Trust is the park’s official nonprofit partner, committed to supporting the park and local communities through fundraising initiatives, expanding accessibility and broadening support through programs that highlight the Park’s historical, natural, and cultural heritage.

When: 
Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 9:00am – 12:00pm

Where: 
C&O Canal NHP Georgetown Visitor Center

We will meet in the grassy yard behind the visitor center.

Metro:
The closest Metro stop is Foggy Bottom.

Parking:
Parking garages are all around. Local permits are required for street parking.
Please arrive early to allow ample time to find parking and get to the visitor center!

Who:
All ages are welcome, but parents do remain responsible for children the entire time. No drop-offs. Student Service Learning (SSL) hours are available; just bring your forms from the school and we’ll be happy to sign them.

Anticipated Projects:
● Painting park structures
● Trash clean up
● Invasive species removal
Note: Long sleeves and long pants are highly recommended for those removing vegetation to protect against cuts and scratches. Poison ivy may be present within the foliage. While we take every precaution to avoid it and have wipes available onsite, those with extreme reactions to poison ivy should not choose this project.

Volunteer Service Agreement (VSA) Form:
– If you are registering your child under 18, a VSA form, along with instructions, will be emailed to you once the registration has been received.
– Adults will sign a different form onsite.
