Girl Scout “Trees” Badge Workshop
Calling all Cadette Girl Scouts!
Earn your “Trees” Badge with the C&O Canal Trust at Lockhouse 49 in Clear Spring, MD!
At this hands-on workshop, Cadettes will explore the science and importance of trees. Scouts will identify different species, learn how to help them thrive, and examine the role forests play in our ecosystem. They will even make a pressed leaf coaster and sample yummy snacks that trees provide to everyone!

Please park in the Four Locks Boat Ramp Lot. Participants who need accessible spaces may park directly at the Lockhouse, space is limited.
Cost: Suggested Donation of $10 per participating child (payment can be made online or on the day of the event through Venmo at check-in).
Who Can Attend? Cadette Girl Scouts (6th-8th grade), Family and Friends. We ask that every party have at least one adult chaperone.
What to Bring/Wear? Comfortable clothing & walking shoes. Dress warm and in layers! We will be walking outdoors for approximately 30 minutes and return to the lockhouse for the rest of the event. Please bring a cushion (“sit upon”) or folding chair since seating is limited inside of the lockhouse.
Light refreshments will be provided. If you prefer, you can bring your own snacks and/or a packed lunch. A small refrigerator will be available inside the lockhouse.
Please note that adult chaperones are responsible for their children at all times. No drop-offs, please.
Additional Notes:
The “Trees” badge will not be distributed at the event. Please work with your Girl Scout representatives to acquire the badge. They are commonly purchased and presented separately by troop leaders or other adults. Participants will receive a certificate of completion after the workshop.
