Georgetown, DC – In response to a request from District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water), the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park will lower the last five miles of the canal, including the Fletchers Cove and Georgetown areas for two days. This will allow DC Water to install a water line at their Fletcher’s Cove construction site, where they are building an odor abatement system and public restrooms.
The draw-down will start Sunday, August 14, at 12:00P.M. and re-watering will begin Tuesday, August 16, at 12:00P.M. The Park’s intention is to lower the canal’s water level by several feet, while maintaining water flow and valuable fish habitat throughout this section of the canal.
