The Beall-Gude Society is named in honor of the legislators who in 1971 sponsored legislation in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, respectively, to establish the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. J. Glenn Beall, Jr. (1927-2006) and Gilbert Gude (1923-2007) were conservationists of the highest order, and thanks to their efforts, the C&O Canal has been forever protected for the enjoyment of the American people.

Establishing a bequest is a simple yet powerful
way to translate your commitment to the C&O Canal
into a lasting legacy. Bequests of any size are gratefully
accepted.
As you prepare your estate plans, you will help
secure the future of the C&O Canal when you name
the Trust to receive:
- A specific dollar amount,
- A percentage of your estate's value,
- All or part of the remainder of your estate in
your will or trust, or
- All or part of the proceeds of a Life Insurance
policy or Retirement Plan.
We urge you to consult your attorney in preparing
your will and hope that the following language will
be helpful in providing a bequest to the Trust:
" After fulfilling all other provisions
for my heirs, I give, devise and bequeath ___%
of what remains of my estate (or $_______) to
the C&O Canal Trust, Inc. (Tax ID # 30-0401642),
a charitable corporation presently having offices
at 1850 Dual Highway, Suite 100, Hagerstown,
Maryland 21740."
Your advisor may wish to know that the Trust is
a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation organized and existing
under the laws of the State of Maryland and its federal
tax ID number is 30-0401642.
When you include the Trust in your estate plans,
